Searching the Library Catalog

Assignment #5: Odyssey 2 is an assignment designed to teach you how to use the library card catalog. Yes, even though we are in an online course it doesn’t mean that using the library isn’t important and required. For serious research papers, student should plan to use the library quite a bit. In that case we will not be skipping an opportunity to visit the library in person. You can visit the school library or local branch close to your house; it’s you choice.

The key thing you have to remember about these assignments is that they have two purposes:

• to help you find sources for your research paper
• to teach you how to be a good researcher and writer

You don’t think I know every student believes that they can write a good research paper by just searching the internet for sources. Well, it’s not true. And hopefully you will realize that as you work your way through these assignments. You have to look past today, and look at your future. Do you plan to go on to ASU or some other college. How about a Master’s degree or doctorate? All future plans will include having to write research papers, so why not learn how to do it correctly right now.
